We’ll Walk with God. We Pray to Him. Each Day to Him
It is through prayer. We abide with abide with the Almighty One.
Scripture Reading: This, then, is how you should pray:
Our Father in Heaven,
hallowed be Your name,
Your kingdom come,
Your will be done,
on earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one. (Matthew 6:9–13, NIV)
Reflection. This article is a Bible Study. Learning from the lessons Jesus taught us from the Lord’s Prayer.
The Lord’s Prayer is a model prayer that Jesus taught to His disciples in the New Testament12. It is also called Our Father, Oratio Dominica, or Pater Noster in Latin23. It begins with acknowledging God as the Father and the source of holiness and continues with asking for His kingdom and will to be done on Earth, as well as for daily bread, forgiveness, and deliverance from evil34. It is found in two versions in Matthew 6:9–13 and Luke 11:2–4, with some differences in wording and length23. The context of the prayer in Matthew is a teaching on the proper attitude and manner of prayer, contrasting it with the hypocritical and ostentatious prayers of some people35.
