We sit with Jesus as He prays. We sit with our Lord

Will we remain awake? As our beloved prays. As in anguish and sorrow, Jesus prays. Will we?

Reflection. It matters not where the Garden is. What matters is the pain and anguish He suffered. Jesus prayed for release. Jesus obeyed God to the point of His crucifixion.

Scriptural basis

Jesus prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane according to the Bible123. In Matthew 26:36–46, Jesus went with His disciples to a place called Gethsemane, and He said to them, “Sit here while I go over there and pray.” He took Peter and the two sons of Zebedee along with Him, and He began to be sorrowful and troubled. Then He said to them, “My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death”2. (Bing, 14/08/2024)

He went away a second time and prayed, “My Father, if it is not possible for this cup to be taken away unless I drink it, may Your will be done.” (Matthew 26:42, NIV)

Will we remain awake? As our beloved Lord Jesus prays. Will we? Will we pray alongside our Lord and God? Will we? Or like the others do we fall asleep? Jesus Christ the only true Son of Almighty God. Jesus the Great I AM. In the Garden of Gethsemane on the eve of His crucifixion. Our Lord Jesus the sacred God-Man. Went to His garden to pray. Jesus knew what waited for Him. Jesus went to His Garden to pray. Will we remain awake? Will we?

Jesus being fully man prayed to His Father for release. Jesus being fully God loves us to the point of dying. On His tree, Jesus shall suffer, bleed and die tomorrow. Jesus in His anguish and sorrow prays. On the eve of His crucifixion in the Garden. Jesus the Man, Christ the God prays. Will we pray with Him? Will we?

You and I love Jesus our Saviour with all our hearts and souls. Our love for Him has no bounds. Yet, in all honesty, we shall never know the depth of our Lord’s agony that night. We shall never truly understand the agony felt in the tender heart of Jesus. Our Lord Jesus, the divine God-Man knew what awaited Him on the dawn. Jesus knew He was to be the perfect and unblemished Lamb of God. He knew on the morn. He was to be led away. Will we pray alongside our Lord and Saviour? Will we?

Jesus is to be led to His slaughter. By one of His own. Jesus is to be betrayed. Our Lord’s head bent low in anguish and utter despair. In prayer to His Father. The Son of Man called out. With tears of blood and water. Christ calls out to His Father. His heart is broken by the sin of mankind. Jesus’ heart is broken as His Father turns away. Almighty God cannot be in the presence of sin. Jesus is bearing all the sins of humanity. Will we pray alongside our Lord and Saviour? Will we?

Jesus is God the Son. With all the might and power of His Deity. Jesus being God could have. Had He so chosen? Jesus could have just walked away. And left mankind to walk in our darkness. Jesus is God the Son. God is love. He chose to pay the price for our sins. He chose to suffer and die in our stead. Jesus loves you and me. He chose to suffer, bleed and die on His wicked and soul-saving cross. So you and I could live with and in Him forever. Will we pray alongside our Lord and Saviour? Will we?

Jesus knew the penalty for sinning against Almighty God would cost. Death and eternal separation. Jesus is God. Therefore, He is perfect, without sin or blemish. Jesus loves each of God’s people. Jesus hung on His cross to take the wrath of Almighty God on our behalf. Jesus loves you and me. So very much. Jesus Christ our Lord and Redeemer hung on His cross to pay for our sins.

Jesus, as God the Son could have summoned all His angels and stepped down. He did not. Jesus the Son of God. With all the power and divinity this entails. Could have left mankind to our destiny. He did not. Jesus the Redeemer could have returned to Heaven. To return to the Father He loves more than any other. He did not. Jesus loves each one of us. Jesus endured all the suffering and His death. Do we kneel before Jesus and praise His Holy name? Do we? Do we truly appreciate Jesus’ love and forgiveness? Do we?

Conclusion. Our Lord endured His suffering and death. So we shall live with and in Him for eternity.

Scripture Readings: (Romans 6:23, ESV) For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. (John 3:16, ESV) For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. (Jolly Notes Blog)

Now this is love with a capital “L”. Every man and woman on this precious planet has sinned. Every sin has separated us from God our Heavenly Father. Every sin carries with it the penalty of death. Mankind cannot save ourselves. There is only one Person who can pay the price for our sins. There is only one Person whose blood can cleanse us from our sins. This is the pure and perfect Lamb of God. The Person is Jesus Christ our Savior. This is the Son of God, our Saviour.

Jesus in His Garden knew of His love for you and me. Jesus is God the Son. God is love. Jesus suffered, bled and died on His wicked and soul-saving cross. We live with and in Him for eternity. We are washed clean in the pure and perfect blood of the Lamb of God.

Paul Cardall’s New Inspirational Song “Gethsemane”. Sung magnificently by Nathan Pacheco.

Although Nathan Pacheco beautifully sings the words in Italian, a language unknown to some, there is no need for an interpreter as the heart of the listener proves to be an excellent translator, translating the message of the song into a language that is readily understood. As viewers watch the video and listen to the words of this powerful song, they can sense the redeeming love that the Savior has for them as a feeling of serenity sweeps over them. (YouTube)
