We Sit at the Feet of Jesus. We Listen to His Words of Love
Jesus speaks words of healing and of love. We listen with heart wide open.
Rock of Ages, Cleft for Me, Let Me Hide Myself in Thee
Rock of Ages, cleft for me,
let me hide myself in Thee,
let the water and the blood,
from Thy wounded side which flowed,
be of sin the double cure,
save from wrath and make me pure. Not the labors of my hands
can fulfill Thy law’s demands,
could my zeal no respite knows.
could my tears forever flow,
all for sin could not atone,
Thou must save, and Thou alone. (Augustus Toplady (1776)
Introduction. Jesus sits next to us. Teaching His lessons on love. We hang on to His every word. Eagerly listening. He sees deep into our heart.
Jesus is God the Son. God is love. As we sit at His feet. You and I, His beloved disciples. We are wrapped and are comforted in the love of God. Jesus somehow radiates pure and sweet love. As you and I sit near to Him. Jesus Christ the beloved Son of God. Christ the much-awaited Messiah. Jesus Christ our Lord, our Saviour, our God. As we sit near to Jesus, we are comforted. In the loving closeness of Jesus, we are at such peace. Simply by being nearby to Jesus. Yes, we sit at the feet of Jesus, our LORD.
There is oh! so, something peaceful and comforting in Him. The beloved Son of God sits near to us. You and I are drawn to listen to each and every word. We are drawn to this Man of peace and of God’s eternal love. We now, and forever more are His chosen and His beloved disciples. You and I now and for eternity dedicate our lives as followers of our teacher and our guide. The Messiah, the Son of God. Jesus, God the Son. Our Lord and our teacher. Sits close by to us.
Scripture Readings: He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David, (Luke 1:32, NIV)
“You call Me” ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and rightly so, for that is what I am. (John13:13, NIV)
The people were amazed at His teaching, because He taught them as one who had authority, not as the teachers of the law. (Mark 1:22, NIV)
We are demanded by Jesus to spread the Gospel of the Kingdom of God. You and I want to let the world feel Jesus’ warmth. We want all the world to sit at the feet of Jesus our Lord.
If you had the chance? Would you travel back in time? Just to sit at the feet of our Lord and listen. To actually be there as Jesus was among the very young children. When He blessed and loved each one. As our Lord sat with His beloved disciples. And taught His lessons of love and of healing of comfort. We sit at the feet of Jesus and are bathed in His love and His everlasting peace.
Scripture Reading: Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. (Colossians 3:15, NIV)
Jesus demands of us, as His beloved and chosen disciples, “proclaim the gospel.” And so, we shall. In our tender and compassionate actions to all those we meet and need our care. In our kind and soft words. When a friend is sad and a little lonely.
Scripture Reading: And He said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. (Mark 16:15–16, ESV)
As chosen and beloved disciples of our Lord, Jesus Christ. It is our duty to show His love to all those we meet.
Scripture Reading: But thanks be to God, who in Christ always leads us in triumphal procession, and through us spreads the fragrance of the knowledge of Him everywhere. (2 Corinthians 2:14, ESV)
What a glorious and musical phrase, “fragrance of the knowledge of Him everywhere.” In our open heart, this to us. Is what the Gospel of the Kingdom of God surely is. For the Kingdom of God is the dwelling place of Almighty God, Himself. It is a place filled to overflowing with God’s love and His glory and His majesty.
It is not only our duty to spread the Gospel of the Kingdom of God to all those we meet. It is our blessing and such joy to us it brings. As we spread the good news of God’s Heavenly Kingdom. We are reminded, it is our current Home. Right here, right now. We desire with all our heart. That all of mankind shall join us in God’s Heavenly Kingdom. In fact, God Himself welcomes and invites one and all to His Heavenly HOME.
Show the love of Jesus. By meeting people where they are. I don’t know about you. I simply hate being, “talked down to.” I believe others feel the same. When you and I chat for a while with someone obviously down on her luck. Treat her with Jesus’ kindness, curtesy and utmost respect. It probably has been quite a while for her. Invite her, by your kind words and actions. To sit at the feet of Jesus and learn from Him. Allow God her Father to welcome her HOME.
Scripture Reading: For this is the message that you have heard from the beginning, that we should love one another. (1 John 3:11, ESV)
For, when we read the Gospels. We picture Jesus sitting at the well with the woman from Samaria. Jesus speaking softly. His words of love, shared with kindness and compassion. The local village shunned her. The lateness of the day, in which she needed to draw water from the well indicated her isolation. Jesus loved and treated her with respect and dignity. This is how we treat each and every person, God places before us. The blessed story of Jesus softly speaking to the Samaritan woman at the well is found in John Chapter 4.
We as Jesus’ chosen, and beloved disciples follow His perfect example. You and I love tenderly and with whole-hearted compassion each person we meet.
Scripture Reading: And this is His commandment, that we believe in the name of His Son Jesus Christ and love one another, just as He has commanded us. (1 John 1:23, ESV)
