Jesus Heals.

Have you heard the joyful sound?
Jesus heals, Jesus heals,
Through the Spirit we have found,
Jesus heals, Jesus heals.

Yes, He heals the blind and lame,
And His pow’r is just the same.
As when first to earth He came,
Jesus heals, Jesus heals.

(John E. Roberts, 1897)

Introduction. Jesus, the Great Physician heals still. Through the healing hands of physicians and surgeons. And the countless others working in the background.

Scripture Reading: And He called to Him His twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal every disease and every affliction. (Matthew 10:1, ESV)

Jesus, the Great Physician heals today. Our Lord cures through the hands and the minds of dedicated doctors and so many others. Healings and Jesus’ miracles are still performed in the answer to fervent prayer.

The doctors and countless others place their faith and their trust in Almighty God. These highly educated and amazingly skilled men and women. Devote their lives and dedicate their skills to Almighty God. These men and women use their skills to the benefit of their patients. Their hands and their minds are used to heal and to cure. Their hearts are used to comfort and to bring peace. The Great Physician heals and to bring God’s peace. Through His dedicated people. Jesus, the Divine Physician heals and cures still.

Physicians’ hands are guided by Almighty God. As broken bones are once more healed and joined. Yes, today even hearts are replaced. When one life is lost, and a heart is donated. Another life is renewed. Jesus, our Great Physician once more resurrects. Through the hands of His surgeon and His surgical team. Jesus once more performs His miracle. Jesus performs His miracles still. A life on the brink of death is resurrected.

A personal tale I shall share. A plastic surgeon, a faithful child of Almighty God. His highly skilled medical team, whose lives were totally devoted to their Divine Physician. Guided by the hand and the wisdom of the Almighty One. Performed Jesus’ miracle for my son, Mark. The answer to my fervent prayer for a miracle.

My beloved son is subject to horrid, horrid seizures. One so bad. Mark bit off, his complete bottom lip. Guided by God. His plastic surgeon. Replaced my son’s lip. Without a trace that it was ever bitten off. Jesus, my LORD, my God, my GREAT PHYSICIAN. Performed His miracle. My life on that night forever changed. May God and Jesus, His beloved Son be praised. AMEN!

Scripture Reading: He is the One you praise; He is your God, who performed for you those great and awesome wonders you saw with your own eyes. (Deuteronomy 10:21, NIV)

Many physicians and surgeons and countless others speak of their faith. Their love of God gains for them the strength in times of weakness and extreme fatigue. God, the Holy Spirit provides the words of comfort. Words to ease their fear. For surgeons do far more than heal bodies. These doctors soothe the fears of their patients and their families.

These highly educated and over worked men and women. Listen, truly listen with the heart of Jesus. With the love of their Lord. They calm the anxious heart. These faithful people soothe the troubled soul. The worries of the patient who place their life in the hand of the surgeon. They reassure. Jesus, the Peacemaker, brings to the patient His peace still.

Scripture Reading: And all the crowd sought to touch Him, for power came out from Him and healed them all. (Luke 6:19, ESV)

Peace, I leave with you, My peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. (John 14:27a, NIV)

Physicians and surgeons and countless others are gifts from God. These men and women are the hands, and the minds Jesus uses to heal, still.

Scripture Readings: Then shall your light break forth like the dawn, and Your healing shall spring up speedily, Your righteousness shall go before You, the glory of the Lord shall be your rear guard. (Isaiah 58:8, ESV)

You shall serve the Lord your God, and He will bless your bread and your water, and I will take sickness away from among you. (Exodus 23:25, ESV)

Jesus, the Divine Physician. Jesus laid His hands of healing and of Divine love. Curing all manner of sickness.

Scripture Reading: Now when the sun was setting, all those who had any who were sick with various diseases brought them to Him, and He laid His hands on every one of them and healed them. (Luke 4:40, ESV)

You and I reading of Jesus ministry of curing and of His healings. As our Lord touches the untouchable leper with pure LOVE. We read of Jesus returning the sight to the blind. Returning hearing to the deaf. Jesus places His hand of love and His hand of healing. Miracles and healings Jesus performs still, today. Through the hands of men and women. Who devote and dedicate their lives and their faith to the Divine Physician.

In today’s society. We would say Jesus has many specialties. In order for Jesus, the Great Physician to carry out His ministry today. He needs to use the hands and the minds of many, many people of faith. People who are educated in and who specialize in many different professions.

Jesus, the Divine Physician answers our fervent prayers for healing. Our prayers for miracles are answered through God’s skilled and faithful workers. Continuing Jesus’ ministry of love and of healing through His physicians and countless others. Jesus’ healings and miracles are achieved by men and women of faith and God’s Holy service. Through their skills and their dedication to Almighty God. Jesus, our LORD His miracles to perform still.

Jesus’ true miracle. Almighty God answers fervent prayers. Through the skillful and faithful hands of all His obedient servants.

Scripture Reading: He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. (Psalm 147:3, ESV)

For it is not only the hands and the minds of the physicians and the surgeons. It is also many other obedient servants of our Heavenly Father. Who devote and dedicate their lives to God and to their patients. From the nursing staff who care for our physical and our emotional needs. To the administrational teams working tirelessly in the background. Then we remember the educational sources. So desperately needed by all these people and more.

It would be impossible for me to list all the men and women who work faithfully for Jesus. All are faithful and humble servants of Almighty God. Working in God’s service. Healing and bringing God’s peace to all those placed in their care.

We are his healing hands, as the song attributed to the prayer of St Teresa of Ávila reminds us: “Christ has no hands-on earth but yours.” We can all continue to reach out a helping hand to cure the spiritual and moral ailments of our brothers and sisters. In this way, we continue to assist Jesus, the Divine Physician, in his ongoing mission of healing and giving life to the world of today. (Fr James McTavish, FMVD, MD)

Jesus, the Great Physician heals still. Our LORD. The Divine Physician cures through His faithful people.
