The Kingdom of Heaven is the Pearl of Great Price
We give all we have. To obtain salvation. We must give to Almighty God our very lives.
Scripture Reading: Again, the Kingdom of Heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls. When he found one of great value, he went away and sold everything he had and bought it. (Matthew 13:45–46, NIV)
Reflection. Jesus’ Parable of the Pearl of Great Price. We need to give Almighty God all our love. Our very lives we give to Him. This is the price we pay. This is the entry fee into the Kingdom of Heaven.
We recall the fairy tales told to us when we were very young. Stories of the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Tales of pirates who hid their treasures on desert islands. My favourite. A young girl prays for a velvet ribbon. Her father peaks into her bedroom. There he sees. Many velvet ribbons. Where they came from. He never will know. Yet, so many velvet ribbons laid out on this little girl’s bed.
Yes, all right. These stories are merely fairy tales. They have captured the imaginations of children for many generations. The notion of treasures and riches captures our imaginations. There is one treasure that has a price that is beyond all measure. A sacred and divine treasure that costs us all we have. A treasure of Divine proportion…
