Connecting With Nature
Healing Power and Beauty of Nature!
Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass under trees on a summer’s day, listening to the murmur of the water, or watching the clouds float across the sky, is by no means a waste of time. John Lubbock
I go to nature to be soothed and healed, and to have my senses put in order. John Burroughs
In all things of nature there is something of the marvelous. Aristotle
Wherever you happen to live on this one-of-a-kind ‘Blue Planet’. Allow yourself a moment. A moment to fill your heart and soul with the Healing, Marvel and Beauty of Nature.
Wherever you live, be it in a sprawling, desert — windblown and vast. OR A coastline blown by salty breezes on endless seas with distant horizons. OR Rural regions with crops that support people unknown to you. OR In a hustling/bustling city where public parks provide refuge from the hustle and bustle.
Allow yourself a moment, if you will, to look around. God’s beauty is on display! All you need to do is Pause while and seek it out. Wherever you are on this Small Blue Dot there is truly something to wonder at.
Something just around the corner to stand in ‘awe’ at its mere presence… Even on a crowded city street, a solitary tree, perhaps. Stand silently in its presence. Breathe deeply in its true essence. Look intensely at its bark, and feel the texture of a unique leaf.
Trees are the earth’s endless effort to speak to the listening heaven. Robindranath Tagare
In nature, nothing is perfect and everything is perfect. Trees can be contorted, bent in weird ways, and they’re still beautiful. Alice Walker
What is this solitary tree speaking of? The universe unfolds before your eyes, if only you will spend time for it to speak. The texture of the leaf is like nothing else on this Blue Planet.
Perhaps nowhere else in the entire universe??? Can you grasp the enormity of this simple leaf? Feel its texture, smell its unique scent, and breathe in its one-of-a-kind perfume. Such beauty in such a small package.
Now, stand back if you will. Look at its parent, the tree. Large or small. It appears so gigantic compared to the leaf. Yet, ponder for a moment the tree itself depends on the leaf for its nourishment. It's very life! This is the miracle of life! The large depends on the very small. WOW! All this wonder from a solitary tree in a crowded city.
Now, perhaps you may be a desert dweller. The only trees you can enjoy are at a welcome oasis. The gentle shade provides cover for both you and your camels. Offering respite and a time of gratitude and wonder.
This desert you call home, you now know abounds with life. You may seek it out. Your family may have lived here for many generations. The awe of the isolation of this land is Home and welcomes rest. Awe is an emotion of familiarity to you.
Yet, this land also demands respect, sometimes fear. But always reverence. The peoples of the desert have learnt over time to form oneness with their surroundings. They over many generations have learnt to live in harmony with nature and have survived.
Yet, to you as an inhabitant of this arid land — it is indeed Beautiful!
I don’t see the desert as barren at all; I see it as full and ripe. It doesn’t need to be flattered with rain. It certainly needs rain, but it does with what it has, and creates amazing beauty. Joy Harjo
If you don’t die of thirst, there are blessings in the desert. You can be pulled into limitlessness, which we all yearn for, or you can do the beauty of minutiae, the scrimshaw of tiny and precise. The sky is your ocean, and the crystal silence will uplift you like great gospel music, or Neil Young. Anne Lemott
Or, in sharp contrast. Do you live on the coast and fall asleep to the sound of crashing waves? If so, I am just a little envious. The flowing of the ever-moving surf on the shifting sands. The full moon reflects on still waters.
The bright endless stars on a moonless night reflected on a still sea. The lighthouse’s beams warn of dangers for those returning from venturing off our shores. The sounds of children splashing in the shallows on a warm spring day. Your dog calling for you to again throw her ball. Such magic — you delight in living!
God’s playground! Your emotions are stirred simply by remembering days spent at the seaside. Days of leisure with family and friends. Amidst the hustle and bustle of modern life. Memories of such days bring calm to oneself. And once again life is truly worth living.
The sea, once it casts its spell, holds one in its net of wonder forever. Jaques Yves Cousteau
To escape and sit quietly on the beach — that’s my idea of paradise. Emilia Wickstead
Or, do you live in the mountains where you wake up to a winter’s day where all is white and fresh again? Where the crisp mountain air fills not only your lungs but your heart also. The falling of the snow on a crisp winter’s day. Each flake, amongst the many millions, is unique unto itself.
Mountains are the beginning and the end of all natural scenery. John Ruskin
Great things are done when men and mountains meet. William Blake
There indeed are billions of people on this Small Blue Dot. Yet there is only one you! As there is only one of each snowflake. Isn’t God Great and Wonderful?
No matter where you live on this Small Blue Dot we have named Earth — it is Your Home! It showcases for you an exhibition of Connection and Beauty! This is for you and me to Treasure and takes care of. Take care of it we must!
Now you have realized what an honour it is to be blessed with the beauty surrounding you. From the grandeur of a vast mountain range. To the seemingly endless desert. To the sand and endless sea of our coastlines. To just a lone tree in a city. Now, I feel it is time you and I perhaps allow time to show gratitude.
Perhaps, now is the time to allow yourself a quiet moment to consider just what bounty Mother Nature provides you and me. Of course, her list is endless.
When you spend time with your family in nature-wherever this may be for you — -nature puts on such great displays. Incredible exhibitions of diversity where discrimination is never a factor. And any shortcomings you and I may have been overlooked and forgotten. If only for a short time. For just a brief moment who you are is sufficient. This too is beautiful!
When we venture into the Great Outdoors lessons are learnt. Insights are stored away for future times. All in nature is in harmony and balance. As you and I stand in Awe at Mother Nature in all Her Glory. From the Grandeur of Mount Everest to a single and unique snowflake. To a beam of sunlight defusing into a rainbow of colours. To the sound of bird songs in the evening. To the sound of waves crashing upon rocks along your favourite beach.
Stand in Awe once again! Feeling again you belong to this Earth. And, remember who you truly are! A child of this Small Blue Planet.
I will now jot down just a few things I am eternally grateful for fresh clean water, food to share with family and friends, and materials for medicines to share with others in countries of need. The list is endless and will change for you and your loved ones. Do you realize just how bountiful Mother Nature is???
I live in a city where I can enjoy the freedom of a local park and take a holiday to the coast. You know deep within your soul just how bountiful Mother Nature is to all of us. She provides water, clean air, food, raw materials for medicines, materials for homes and so much more. Dare we not be grateful?
Do you agree we all need to value Nature? For me, nature is uniquely beautiful and bountiful. In many ways simply because She is Alive! All living things are in their way beautiful. Even if only to their kind.
Take time to consider why times spent in nature refresh and even inspire. Have you taken the time to consider how things in the wild improve with time? Where things made by man eventually crumble and fall.
In times of stress have you found having time in your favourite place in nature brings peace again? Have you experienced a time that inspired you to say thank you?
You simply feel better for being in the Great Outdoors. The subtle gift which Mother Nature grants us if we only just spare her time to listen.
Have you ever taken the time to consider how being in the great outdoors really does make you feel better?
Perhaps, just hearing the harmonious voices of birds singing their joy of simply being. Perhaps, the grandeur of the individual tree in a rainforest scrambling for the life-giving rays of the sun. Perhaps, the eternal laps of the waves on a familiar shore at the close of a busy day. Perhaps, a glass of wine on your deck as you gaze over the valley as the sunsets in all her glory.
Mother Nature is to be held in Awe! It is ever Changing and is Forever Beautiful in this Changing!
What to you is majestic and beautiful? For me, it is a sunrise over a glassy sea. A rainbow on a grassy valley during a light spring shower. A mountain topped with snow.
You and I have completely different versions of what is truly beautiful and spectacular. What indeed pulls at your heartstrings.
What makes you pause for a while and stand completely in AWE!
Nature’s beauty in all its range and diversity demands our awe and respect! I try in my small way to capture its beauty in my original oil seascape and landscape paintings. Yet, only God in all His Majesty can create the Real Thing.
Emerson once said: “nature is beautiful because it is alive.” I most sincerely agree. It is because nature is alive, growing and changing which provides her essence and inherent beauty.
You may wonder to yourself why you find your specific region of nature to be wondrous and beautiful. It may be its unique complexity. The colours of a rainbow though brief are simply spectacular. So pure — So magic! The intricacy of a single snow flake-no two alike. The myriad of hues on a butterfly’s wings — which even Micheal Angelo cannot imitate.
Mother Nature can be studied for a lifetime and still have secrets unrevealed. That to me is a wonder!
All things in nature are to be wondered at. I stand in Awe at God’s Magnificence. I stand in Awe at Nature!
Let Mother Nature Inspire you to head into your next adventure — which is the Rest of Your Life!
Let Mother Nature fill you and me with Awe at all Her Grandeur and Simplicity.
I wish you well!
