Someone is Crying Not Too Far from Here.

Somebody’s down to their last dime,
Somebody’s running out of time.
Not too far from here,
Somebody’s got nowhere else to go.

Somebody needs a little hope,
Not too far from here.
And I may not know their name,
But I’m praying just the same,
That You’ll use me, Lord.

To wipe away the tears,
’Cause somebody’s crying.

(Michael Crawford, 2014)

Introduction. We are called by Almighty God. To ease the sorrows of those who cry alone. Jesus Christ calls us to walk alongside those who weep.

Scripture Reading: Then the righteous will answer Him, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You something to drink? When did we see You a stranger and invite You in, or needing clothes and clothe You? When did we see You sick or in prison and go to visit You?’

The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of Mine, you did for Me.’ (Matthew 25:27–40)

These never changing and loving words of our LORD. You and I cherish deeply in our heart. Sadly, as we go about our life. So many lonely people we glimpse. Hidden away in dark alleys at night. Many, many homeless men and women. And yes, even very young children alone and homeless. In this digital age. Many friends on social media. But how many true friends? Just a friendly smile and a sweet “hullo.” Makes all the difference to a person feeling totally invisible.

So, so many lonely and seemingly invisible people out there. All alone and weeping, in our own local community. Let us be the shoulder they need to cry on. Let us plod along with the man carrying his heavy load alone. In this world filled with such poverty, cruelty and abuse. Let us ease the pain and share their load. Just one person at a time. As did Jesus. Our Lord comforted and He shared their pain. Just one person at a time.

Let us be the one who dries away their tears. Let us be the light of Jesus. Let us be the love of God the Father. Let us BE.

Scripture Reading: Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth. (1 John 3:18 (NIV)

There are times in the Gospels when our Lord Jesus actually weeps. Jesus loves the person He is with so intimately; He weeps with her. Let our love for the person we are comforting. Be a reflection of Jesus’ love and His compassion. If we are so moved and it does no further harm. We weep with her. We join with her in her grief and in her sorrow. We weep. We show to her the love of Jesus. WE WEEP.

Scripture Readings: Jesus wept. (John 11:35, ESV)

When Jesus saw her weeping, and the Jews who had come with her also weeping, He was deeply moved in His spirit and greatly troubled. (John 11:33, ESV)

We are so very much loved by Almighty God. Our heart overflows with the love of our Father. With the strength of God, the Holy Spirit. We will wipe away the tears of others.

Scripture Readings: Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due,
when it is in your power to act. (Proverbs 3:27, NIV)

A friend loves at all times,
and a brother is born for a time of adversity. (Proverbs 17:17, NIV)

Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the LORD, and He will reward them for what they have done. (Proverbs 19:17, NIV)

As we show the love of God, our Heavenly Father to others. We also have tears and we at times weep. We also need a shoulder to cry on.

Here, dear reader is a wonderful song. To help dry your tears.

As Andrew Peterson sings in “After the Last Tear Falls.”

In the end, . . .
We’ll see how the tears that have fallen,
Were caught in the palms of the Giver of love and the Lover of all.
And we’ll look back on these tears as old tales.

When you and I are caring for others and wiping away their tears. We have to be extra careful the words we use. For we are speaking Jesus’ love. For people know we are children of God. They judge Jesus by how we act and by what we say. So, extra great care we must always take. As we share her sorrow. It is her we focus on. Our feelings are of no consequence. She is the one who is suffering. If we weep. We weep for her sorrow. If we weep. We weep for her grief. Our shoulder we offer her to cry on.

Uplift the downtrodden. Gladden the heart of the hopeless. With the love of God Almighty.

Scripture Reading: Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves,
for the rights of all who are destitute.
Speak up and judge fairly,
defend the rights of the poor and needy. (Proverbs 31:8–9, NIV)

A personal tale now I tell you, dear reader. I have been destitute. I have lived for a time in my car. What I would have given for a shoulder to cry on. Not alone was I, I had my dog, “Little Lady.” And never alone am I. My Heavenly Father is always close by. But the nights, oh! the nights. Yes, a gentle smile and friendly, “hullo.” Would have indeed gladdened my heart.

May God be praised! A home I have now.

We look at all the blessings our Heavenly Father has showered upon us. You and I see our neighbor is not so fortunate. We take what is not needed. And leave it on her doorstep. Little gestures like this of love. No embarrassment to her. But a new dress now she has. We have done as Jesus would do.

You and I cannot change the world. We can make a difference to the world of one person weeping alone. We can weep with a lady crying alone at the graveside of her beloved. We can weep with her. As did Jesus. Little signs of Jesus’ love. True and genuine love.

Which changes the direction of a person’s day. Which not only wipe away her tears. Our love and Jesus’ compassion. Makes this invisible person visible once more. This person who felt no one cared. Feels loved truly loved. For she is. She is loved by God our Heavenly Father. She is loved by her Creator.

Scripture Reading: What should we do then? the crowd asked.

John answered, “Anyone who has two shirts should share with the one who has none, and anyone who has food should do the same.” (Luke 3:10–11, ESV)
