Solitary Time with our Father
Being alone with God is the most wonderful way to spend our time.
My husband sadly is now in a nursing home. I thought I would be lonely. Quite the opposite. I am thriving on the time available to me and I am now reaching my dreams. I spend hours each day aiming for the sky. Reaching for the stars. I admit that nights hit hardest. But I pull myself together, remembering I am not really alone. Jesus is always here keeping me company. I go to bed looking forward eagerly to the day ahead.
God has granted me two wonderful gifts in my old age. Painting seascapes and landscapes in oils, with the occasional acrylic and watercolor. And, of course writing my articles to you, my dear reader. I am far too busy doing God’s work to get lonely. When I do, I pray and God our Father swiftly replaces my loneliness with His all-embracing love.
Snuggle in God’s arms. When you are hurting, when you feel lonely, left out. Let Him cradle you, comfort you, reassure you of His all-sufficient power and love. (Kay Arthur, ‘My Savior, My Friend,’ A Daily Devotional. 1995)
