Precious is the Love of Jesus

We lay broken on the ground of life’s troubles. Jesus bends low. Our Lord lifts us up.

How He Loves!

He is jealous for me
Love’s like a hurricane, I am a tree.
Bending beneath the weight of His wind and mercy
When all of a sudden.

I am unaware of these afflictions eclipsed by glory
And I realize just how beautiful You are
And how great Your affections are for me.

And oh, how He loves us, oh
Oh, how He loves us
How He loves us all.

(originally by John Mark McMillan, 2005)

Reflection. Jesus by the power of His Sacred love. Christ through His Divine compassion. Our Lord bends low from His Heavenly throne. Jesus lifts us up.

Scripture Reading: I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me. (Galatians 2:20, NIV)

What does it mean? Jesus lifts us up. Out of our worldly cares. From the darkness of our sin. Our Savior gives us a new life in Him. Our lives before accepting Jesus as our personal Savior. Were broken and empty. We no longer bore the image and the likeness of God the Creator. In the face of such hopelessness. Our Lord, our Redeemer, our God. Jesus intervened on our behalf. Jesus lifted us up into His glory. Christ lifted us up into His ever-lasting love.

Whatever path of destruction our lives may have taken. No matter how dark our lives through sin may have been. Jesus through His saving grace intervened. Jesus stilled our storms of daily troubles and anxieties. Christ calmed the winds of our sin and daily temptation. No matter how great our sin may have been. The love Jesus has for us is always far GREATER.

Scripture Reading: But may it never be that I would boast, except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world. (Galatians 6:14, ESV)

This section of my article, dear reader. Is focused on Saint John’s Gospel Chapter 12, verses 32–33. Saint John, Jesus’ beloved Apostle. Further explains what our beloved Lord meant by,

Scripture Reading: I, if I be lifted up from the earth. (John 12:32, KJV)

Saint John added in his Gospel a comment clarifying for us that. Jesus was fully aware of His forthcoming crucifixion. Jesus knew He would indeed be literally lifted up. Jesus our Savior, our Redeemer was indeed crucified on our behalf. On His old wooden cross Jesus was lifted up and died. So we would live in and with Him forever more. We were crucified along with Jesus. Our old life of sin and destruction was crucified. A new life for and with Jesus was born.

Saint John’s Gospel speaks on how Jesus did not view His crucifixion as a finality. Our beloved LORD did not see His death as something to be feared. On the contrary our Redeemer saw His crucifixion for what it is. A miracle. A wonder. A gift. The salvation for all humanity. Jesus our Redeemer. Christ our Savior. Knew His upcoming death will indeed herald in eternal life for many.

But, the heart. The precious heart of our beloved LORD was troubled. Then at last Christ’s true obedience to God the Father was rewarded.

Scripture Reading: Now is My soul troubled. And what shall I say? ‘Father, save Me from this hour’? But for this purpose I have come to this hour. Father, glorify Your name.” Then a voice came from Heaven: “I have glorified it, and I will glorify it again. (John 20:27–28, NIV)

Being crucified with Jesus. There is another wondrous miracle. To the lifting of our Lord on His old wooden cross.

Once Jesus died by crucifixion, victory over death and over the ruler of this world (Satan) would be complete. By being lifted up on the cross, Jesus would draw all people to Himself. (verses 30–32) (gotquestions.com)

As our Lord Jesus Christ hung and died on His wicked and soul-saving cross. He had won final victory of sin and death. For all those who placed their faith and their lives in Him. This to all faithful followers of Jesus is what is meant, “ by being lifted up on the cross.” God Almighty gives to Jesus all those who believe in Jesus. This is the precious meaning of being drawn to Jesus through the cross.

Scripture Reading: “For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.” 1 (openbible.com) (1 Corinthians 1:18, ESV)

What this precious text indicates to all believers and followers of Jesus. As faithful and true followers we are also crucified with Christ. Signifying our gratitude. For Jesus’ sacrificial purchase for our eternal salvation.

Our crucifixion with Jesus Christ also acknowledges. And symbolizes our eternal union with Him. Through the cleansing and the forgiveness of sin. In our crucifixion in and with Jesus. Our old and sinful lives are transformed through faith. We now live for eternity with Jesus.

Now is my soul troubled. And what shall I say? ‘Father, save me from this hour’? But for this purpose I have come to this hour. 28Father, glorify your name.” Then a voice came from heaven: “I have glorified it, and I will glorify it again. (John 12:27–28, NIV)

Conclusion. Precious is the Love of Jesus. We lay broken on the ground of life’s troubles. Jesus bends low. Our Lord lifts us up.

The wonder. The miracle of the old wooden cross. We are crucified with Jesus. Our old lives of sin and darkness are transformed into eternal lives of light. We live forever more with Jesus.

This is what is meant by. We are lifted up.
