You stand before a beautiful work of art and simply enjoy its ability to capture your imagination. And, just for a few moments, you are carried away from your daily cares and woes. A painting has the power to take you on a journey. At times in your life, you may need to simply drift away for a short while.
Having the ability to create an original oil painting allows me to drift off to my escape.
My family and having friends bring happiness to my everyday life. This happiness, at times, is sadly lacking. The sense of dissatisfaction crawls up on me sometimes, without me even realizing it. I force myself to act on these negative emotions the only way I know-how.
How do I achieve this you may well ask? Well, at times it is not easy. I pick up my brush, stand at my easel and continue painting another original oil painting. Before I realize it — the dark shadows of isolation and loneliness have vanished and are replaced with joy once again.
I am quite content with my life. God has blessed me with an incredible gift. The ability to put brush to canvas and capture the essence of Australia’s nature in oils. Yet, there are times even this is not enough. I feel as if there is a hole in my heart. I don’t know how to fill it. This is the time I take a few deep breaths and picture my unfinished painting complete. Then, I imagine this seascape painting hanging in the home of an Australian art collector. Once again life is good!!!
So, what is this hole? What is this sense of dissatisfaction? What is this sense of loss of connection? Perhaps it is the primary desire every one of us has. The underlying compulsion to be needed and to simply belong. Am I alone in feeling this way? I guess not? Belonging to family, friends and our local community gives our lives a sense of satisfaction, happiness and meaning that mere material possessions cannot…
