Poem Based on Mark 4:35–41

Don’t you care?
We’re all going to drown!”
His face of love and concern
Looks me right in the eye
Knowing my fear
Seeing the tempest inside
He speaks

And a great windstorm arose, and the waves were breaking into the boat, so that the boat was already filling. But He was in the stern, asleep on the cushion. And they woke Him and said to Him, “Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?” And He awoke and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Peace! Be still!” And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. Mark 4:37–39

Picture this. The fishing boat the disciples and our Lord, Jesus was in that day was perhaps not that sturdy. God’s Holy Word states, “ a great windstorm arose” already filling the boat with water. No, wonder Jesus’ friends were afraid for their very lives.

I feel the stormy weather is not the lesson of this message. The disciples had Jesus there in the boat with them. Yet, they doubted His love. They misunderstood His sleeping.

Jesus must have been physically exhausted. He had spent the entire day dealing with
