To be a Christian without prayer is no more possible than to be alive without breathing. (Martin Luther)

Prayer is the place of refuge for every worry, a foundation for cheerfulness, a source of constant happiness, a protection against sadness. (St John of Chrysostom)

Introduction. Remember!!! We pray to “Abba”, “Father.” God’s love for you and for me is this intimate. We are His beloved child.

Scripture Reading: I will be a Father to you,
and you will be My sons and daughters,
says the Lord Almighty. (2 Corinthians 6:18, NIV)

Do you start each prayer to God with “my Father?” Praying to Him this way. You and I find shelter and God’s love surrounding us. Loving God, our Father with all we are. Connects us to Him on an intimate and a personal level.

Scripture Reading: This, then, is how you should pray:

“Our Father in Heaven,
hallowed be Your name,” (Matthew 6:9, NIV)

This is such a gift of love from Almighty God. We are so blessed to be a child of God. You and I are so cherished and so precious to Him. The Creator of all there is. Is our Heavenly Father also.

God is the centerpiece of our lives. The cornerstone on which we build our faith. Our Heavenly Father is the very reason for our daily existence. Prayer is our heartbeat. Prayer is the inhaling of God’s love. Prayer draws our Father ever so near to us. As we present to Him our pleas, our loved ones and ask for His guidance. You and I are empowered by the presence of God Almighty.

Truly believing God is our Heavenly Father also helps us to ask for His forgiveness. Seeking God’s forgiveness through His never-ending love, mercy and kindness. We are empowered to humbly confess our sins and to genuinely repent.

Scripture Readings: Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord, (Acts3:19, NIV)

For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved. (Romans 10:10, NIV)

In our prayer time. Slow down and make time for our Heavenly Father.

Unfortunately, modern day life seems to be operated in the “fast lane.” We cannot. We must not let this be so in our time spent with God. Our love for Almighty God must be acknowledged by slowing down. By making time for our Heavenly Father always. This is especially important in our prayer time.

Acknowledging our Heavenly Father is never in a hurry. Almighty God indeed has eternity and uses it to spend lovingly with you and with me.

Being in a rush steals precious time. We would otherwise share with our loving Father.

Remember!!! Hurrying in our prayer time robs us of our Father’s beauty. As we are spending time in His presence. We are surrounded by God’s beauty and His serenity. Just outside our window. In our garden. Our Creator’s flowers, trees, birds and other gifts speaking of sheer beauty.

Scripture Reading: He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; ye no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end. (Ecclesiastes 3:11, NIV)

In our times of hurrying and moments of rushing we miss out on such blessings. Our Heavenly Father has placed these gifts of grace before us to enjoy and to be thankful for. Let us not miss any one of these parcels of God’s love. No not one!!!

Prayer itself is a thing of beauty. We are speaking to God, who by His very nature is LOVE. You and I are sharing precious moments in the presence of love. There is nothing more beautiful and splendid than LOVE. So, no we are never in a hurry. We have this life and eternity to spend in prayer with our Heavenly Father. Soaking up all His LOVE, beauty and splendor. No, we are never in a hurry.

As we pray to our Heavenly Father. You and I meditate on the Cross. For it is only through Christ Jesus we have access to Almighty God.

Scripture Reading: Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” (John 14:6, NIV)

No greater gift has Almighty God ever bestowed upon mankind. God’s greatest gift. His one and only beloved Son, Christ Jesus. In each precious prayer time with our Father. Christ’s cross is ever before us. Reminding us it is only through Christ Jesus we have access to Almighty God.

Scripture Reading: For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by His grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. (Romans 3:23–24)

As you and I bow our heads in prayer. We meditate on the agony, humiliation and sacrificial death of Jesus our Lord. This meditation moves us to confession. Recalling that Jesus suffered and died to pay the price for our sins. A truly humbling experience for you and for me.

Our prayer to Jesus. That we help carry His cross daily. That our life’s journey of faith be one of grace and genuine love for Jesus Christ our Lord, our Savior, our God. “O, LORD grant to us the strength to take up our cross and follow you every day of our lives. AMEN!”

Scripture Reading: Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, His body, and since we have a great priest over the House of God, let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. (Hebrews 10:19–22, NIV)

Saint Paul explains to us that we gain access to Almighty God through our absolute trust. By our complete faith in our Lord and Savior Christ Jesus, God the Son. These verses emphasize that approaching our Heavenly Father with confidence and assurance is only achieved this way.

Prayer is our place of refuge. Prayer time our bringer of inner peace.

Prayer time with our Heavenly Father is a refuge from our troubles. When I spend time with Almighty God. I often take with me His Holy Word. Asking silently for God the Holy Spirit’s guidance to the verses needed. When a little sad, I turn to the Book of Psalms. When forgiveness is needed, I turn to the Gospels. Each word is a word of love from God to you and to me.

Yes, our prayer time with God is indeed a place of refuge. For we are sheltered under His outstretched wings. You and I are comforted in God’s loving embrace. Our troubles drift away, when we spend time in the loving presence of God in prayer. Our sadness dissipates in the presence of God’s love. Our sins are washed away by the pure and sweet blood of His Son, Jesus. Our time in prayer has been blessed by our Heavenly Father. We are loved. Truly loved!!!

Spending precious and blessed moments in prayer with our Father brings to us His peace.

Scripture Reading: Then you will call on Me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. (Jeremiah 29:12, NIV)

Sadly, our lives have times of heartache and pain. These times often bring us to our knees before God. Once more God’s Holy Word is our source of relief and wisdom. Familiar verses sought as we turn to God in prayer. Recalling the many, many times our Heavenly Father has comforted us in the past. When His peace has replaced heartache and sadness. With trust and belief in the never-ending love of our Father. Once more we bow our knees before Him. Just the simple act of prayer, comforts our soul. Brings to our aching heart God’s soothing and calming peace.

Conclusion.

Prayer is indeed a place where we find God’s love. An eternal source of refuge and a true resting place. Prayer Time with God is Empowered by our True Love for Him. Both now and forever more.
