We Are Made in the Image of God to Be His Representatives

So God created mankind in His own image, in the image of God He created them; male and female He created them. Genesis 1:27

If man is not made in the image of God, nothing then stands in the way of inhumanity. There is no good reason why mankind should be perceived as special. Human life is cheapened. We can see this in many of the major issues being debated in our society today. Francis Schaeffer

What does being the image of God mean to us?

Our planet, Earth is filled. It is indeed overflowing with God’s creations. It is indeed teeming with wonders and miracles. We have animals, large and small. Rare and domestic. Tame and wild. Dolphins are thought to be self-aware and to have healing properties beneficial to mankind. Animals of all kinds that are placed in the right place by their Creator. Each with its own unique and valuable purpose. Birds, oh! so many beautiful birds. Insects of so many kinds and variations that scientists have not yet numbered or catalogued them all. “But ask the beasts, and they will teach you; the birds of the heavens, and they will tell you; or the bushes of the earth, and they will teach you; and the fish of the sea will declare to you. Who among all these does not know that the hand of the Lord has done this? In His hand is the life of every living thing and the breath of all mankind.” (Job 12:7–10)

God in His majesty created such wonder and gave mankind authority over it all. Mankind has the rule over all of God’s creation. We are placed here on this amazing planet. Right from the moment of creation as its caretakers.

We are God’s representatives. We are God’s workers. We are to take care of all of God’s creation. “subdue it and have dominion” (Genesis 1:28b) To care for the forests, the oceans, lakes and seas. To care for the deserts and mountains. To be responsible and care for the animals, birds and fish. To be responsible and sustainable farmers and agriculturalists. To be God’s representatives. To express God’s love. To act as God would if He were here on Earth.
