Hallelujah!

Now I’ve heard there was a secret chord
That David played, and it pleased the Lord.

The minor falls, the major lifts
The baffled king composing Hallelujah!

There’s a blaze of light in every word.
It doesn’t matter which you heard.
I’ll stand before the Lord of Song
With nothing on my tongue but Hallelujah!

(Leonard Cohen, 1984)

Reflection. Jesus Christ is the light who illuminates our path of faith.

Scripture Readings: For with You is the fountain of life; in Your light do we see light. (Psalm 36:9, ESV)

Your Word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path. (Psalm 119:5, ESV)

The LORD is my light and my salvation — whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life — of whom shall I be afraid? (Psalm 27:1, ESV)

Sadly, in this world there is much to fear. This world is ruled by the devil and his forces of darkness. The evil one is constantly tempting us to turn away from our loving Father. The evil one is whispering in our ear. We dare not listen to his lies and his deceit. The devil is tempting us to return to our dark side. The evil does all he knows to bring us back into the darkness.

We are loved so by Jesus our Lord. We do not battle the forces of darkness alone. The darkness is no longer part of who we are. We walk in the light and the love of our Redeemer Jesus Christ. We “are the children of the light and of the day.”

Scripture Reading: You are all children of the light and children of the day. We do not belong to the night or to the darkness. (1 Thessalonians 5:5, NIV)

Ephesians 5:8–14 in the New International Version (NIV) of the Bible states that believers were once in darkness, but now they are light in the Lord. They are encouraged to live as children of light, seeking goodness, righteousness, and truth. The passage also includes the famous line: “Wake up, sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you”12. (Bing, 03/07/2024)

God, our Heavenly Father sent His beloved Son Jesus Christ into our sad and dark world. Jesus is the light, and the love of His Father. Our Redeemer came to this dark world filled with sin, death and darkness. Jesus obeyed the will of His Father. Our Lord came to Earth from His divine throne in Heaven. Jesus came down to light humanity’s way back to God.

Jesus’ light leads mankind out of the darkness of sin. Jesus leads all who accept Him from death. Into eternal life in Paradise with God the Father. Jesus our Savior offers eternal life to a people dying in their sin. Offering all away from a world ruled by sin, death and darkness. Jesus came to offer all a brand-new life with love, hope and forgiveness.

Jesus is the light of God Almighty. Jesus is the lamp by which we can find our way Home to Paradise. Jesus is the light by which our footsteps will be guided on our way Home.

Scripture Reading: But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His wonderful light. (1 Peter 2:9, NIV)

What love our Lord has showered upon us. Upon accepting Jesus as our personal Lord, Savior and God. We are lifted out of this sad world of sin and death. Jesus takes us from our world of darkness which separates us from God our Father. Jesus reaches down from His wicked and soul-saving cross. Christ takes into the light of God His Father. Jesus reaches down from Heaven. Our Lord leads out of the darkness of our sin. Jesus guides “into His wonderful light.” (1 Peter 2:9, NIV)

We still live in this world. You and I are still faced with the same fears and problems. We struggled with before Jesus came into our lives. We now are children of the light. Now we have Jesus as our ally. We now have God the Holy Spirit dwelling within our spirit. Giving us the strength we need. We now do not have to fight the Devil alone.

When we feel weak and a little weary. We reach for the Holy Word of God. On our knees before the Almighty One. We prayer for the strength and the guidance needed. Believing, always believing we are not alone in this battle.

We picture Jesus in the desert. Jesus. Oh! So weary and so weak. After 40 hot and dry days in His desert. 40 very long days without food nor water. 40 long and very cold nights. All alone in the desert. The devil saw our Lord’s weariness. The devil knew our Lord’s need for food and rest. The devil believed he would win this battle. Oh! How wrong He was. Jesus had the Holy Word of God as His weapon of choice. As Jesus quoted the Holy Scriptures at the Devil. The Devil fled.

We. You, I, and I all faithful followers of our Lord Jesus. Do as Jesus did. When tempted by the forces of darkness. We use the Holy Scriptures as our weapon of choice. The devil flees before us. We once more are victorious. Tempted — Yes. Sinner — No. We are conquerors. In the power of the Holy Name of Jesus.

Scripture Reading: No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. (Romans 8:37, NIV)

It’s the daily stuff that we have to concern ourselves with. While spiritual rebirth is instant the moment that we put our faith in Jesus for salvation, transformation into His image by the power of the Holy Spirit takes a lifetime and requires our cooperation.

Salvation is about rescue, but Christianity is about obedience, a daily — sometimes momentary — choice to live the kind of life that God intended for us to live by the power of Jesus’ Holy Spirit inside us, walking away from the sin that once enslaved us and embracing the freedom His death and resurrection afforded us.

If you have put your faith in Jesus Christ for salvation, how does it feel to know that death has no power over you?

How do you think God wants you to use the freedom that knowledge provides?

What is your current attitude toward sin in general?

Toward the sin in your own life?

Does this attitude toward sin reflect gratitude for Jesus’ sacrifice?

(Read Romans 6:1–2, 6–14.) (YouVersion Blog)

Yes, we have been made new through the saving grace of Jesus. Now we have to live every day as a child of the light. We have to live every day as a true reflection of Jesus. I live by the motto. If Jesus would not do it. Don’t! If Jesus would not say it. Don’t! If Jesus would love this person. Love her! If Jesus would not eat this food. Don’t! etc., etc., etc., etc.,

This is not easy. Trust me. This is not easy. With the help of God, the Holy Spirit. With much diligent study of the Holy Word of God. And asking for the assistance of God our Father consistently. It is doable. Not easy. But doable.

Today’s audio music video for your inspiration. I hope you enjoy this A Cappello version of this familiar hymn.

I pray there was something in my article where God blessed you.
