Reflection. Jesus said, “I Am Jehovah God.” Jesus our Lord. Jesus is God the Son. Jesus is the Great I AM.

Scripture Reading: I AM the Resurrection and the Life: Jesus is the key to escaping spiritual death for us who are hopelessly doomed to death because of our sin. (John 11, NIV)

Jesus is God the Son. Jesus is therefore the Great I AM. Jesus Himself reveals He indeed is the Great I AM. In Saint John’s Gospel, Jesus Christ, the Messiah and the Son of God. Jesus reveals seven times “I AM” statements.

This article attempts to briefly look into the open, loving, accepting and divine nature of the Lord Jesus. You and I study a few of Jesus’ Great I AM statements. Saint John reveals how Jesus declares different aspects of His nature.

God the Son defined who He was in the Book of John through Jesus’ “I AM” statements.

Scripture Readings: Jesus used the same name (I AM) in the Gospel of John to describe Himself when He said to the Samaritan woman “I…AM He (John 4:26), when He told His frightened disciples as He walked on the surface of the waters toward their boat in a storm “It is I” (John 6:20), and when He reaffirmed to His followers, “I AM He.(John 13:19) (Cindi McMenamin)

The first of the Great I AM statements we will explore together.

Scripture Readings: I AM the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst” John 6:35. Jesus also reiterated this statement in John 6:41, 48, and 51.

Jesus referred to Himself as the Bread of Life, symbolizing His role as the ultimate sustainer and provider of spiritual nourishment123. Just as physical bread sustains our bodies, Jesus sustains our souls3. He is the light of the world, the gate, the good shepherd, and the hope of eternal life4. (Bing, 20/07/2024)

As we walk every day in the presence of our Lord Jesus. We yearn to be filled with His wisdom and His knowledge. Where do we go to be filled with the Bread of Life? We reach for and we study the Holy Scriptures. We turn to the Holy Word of God to be refreshed with the water of Jesus’ love. We read daily the Gospels of Jesus. We then are filled with the spiritual bread of our Lord Jesus. We are then refreshed with the cooling water of Jesus’ love.

On the eve of Christ’s crucifixion. In the upper room. At the Last Supper. Our Lord Jesus spoke these words to His beloved disciples. Then down through the ages to all His faithful followers. Through Saint Matthew’s Gospel.

Scripture Reading: But He answered, “It is written, “‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’” (Matthew 4:4, ESV)

Our hearts hunger to be filled with the bread of Jesus the Great I AM. Our soul thirsts to be filled with the refreshing water of the Holy Word of God. We feast regularly on the body of Jesus at the Communion Table. We drink of the Cup of His blood. Remembering with reverence the sacrifice of the Lamb of God. Recalling with heads bowed the price that was paid for our sin. Jesus the Great I AM. Jesus our Lord. Jesus is the Lamb of God. Jesus paid the ultimate price for our sins. We read of Him and His sacrificial love. In every word, God wrote in the Holy Word of God.

Scripture Reading: John 6:20 KJV states: “But He saith unto them, it is I; be not afraid.” This verse is from the book of John in the Bible, where Jesus refers to Himself as the bread of life, promising that those who come to Him will never hunger or thirst12. (Bing, 20/07/2024)

Jesus passed through Samaria on His way to Galilee; stopping at Jacob’s well, near a place called Sychar. There He talked with a Samaritan woman, and through her, led many Samaritans to believe in Him as the Messiah. The site of Jacob’s well, now memorialized with a building over it, has been traditional for many centuries. Shechem is somewhat west of this well, and Sychar is somewhat east. Bell at Jacob’s well. (Bible Hub Blog)

Jesus shows us through this parable. We are to love people no matter who they are. Jesus is thirsty from His long walk. Jesus pauses at the well of Jacob. At the well, He meets a Samaritan woman. Jesus speaks to her with gentleness, kindness and compassion. As He does to all people Jesus meets. We, as Jesus’ faithful followers treat all people with the love of Jesus. In this way, we are filled with the bread of His body. We are filled with the words, the wisdom and the love of Jesus, the Great I AM.

Scripture Reading: Jesus, the Great I AM. I Am the Resurrection and the Life. (John 11)

We could not study Jesus, the Great I AM. Without studying this aspect of His sacred and divine nature. Jesus is our Resurrection, our Redeemer and our Life.

Scripture Readings: If the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you. (Romans 8:11, NIV)

Jesus said to her, “I AM the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in Me, though he dies, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?” (John 11:25–26, NIV)

We with all our hearts and all our souls believe Jesus our Lord rose from His tomb. Jesus the Great I AM is the perfect and unblemished Lamb of God. Our Lord Jesus is the risen I AM. We live with God in the Heavenly Kingdom. Jesus the Great I AM is for us, “the resurrection and the life.” We abide in the Kingdom of God. Because of the saving grace of Jesus the Great I AM. Each day we praise the Holy Name of Jesus for His saving grace. We worship every day the Holy Name of Jesus for His sacrificial love.

Conclusion. Jesus, the Great I Am. Jesus is God the Son. Jesus is God. God is Love.

Today’s audio music video speaks of our faith in the risen Lord.

STORY BEHIND THE SONG: ‘He Lives’ answers young man’s question.

One of the most popular of 20th century songs, and not just for Easter, is the hymn “He Lives.” Written by Alfred Ackley in 1933, the song is also known by its first line, “I Serve a Risen Savior.”

His wife told him it was time for him to do what he did best — write a song — and then he would feel better.

In his study, Ackley re-read the Resurrection account from Mark’s Gospel in the Bible, and soon the words began to pour from him. A few minutes later, he put music to the words, and answered the question, “Why should I worship a dead Jew?”

“He lives, He lives, Christ Jesus lives today!

He walks with me and talks with me along life’s narrow way.

He lives, He lives, salvation to impart!

You ask me how I know He lives? He lives within my heart.”
