Jesus Reaches Out His Hand. Toward His Beloved Disciples
Whosoever does the will of God the Father is a true disciple of Jesus Christ.
Discipleship is not an option. Jesus says that if anyone would come after Me, he must follow Me. (Tim Keller)
Let us simplify our lives a little, let us make the changes necessary to focus on the simple, humble path of Christian discipleship. (Dieter F. Uchtdorf)
Introduction. Are you a true and a faithful disciple of Jesus your Lord and Savior?
Scripture Reading: But He answered and said unto him that told Him, who is My mother? and who are My brethren?
And He stretched forth His hand toward His disciples, and said, Behold My mother and My brethren!
For whosoever shall do the will of My Father which is in Heaven, the same is My brother, and sister, and mother. (Matthew 12:48–50, KJV)
Do you diligently search God’s Holy Word each day to learn from Jesus? Is your strongest desire to stay near to Him each day on your path of faith? You and I yearn to be nothing more than fully committed disciples of Jesus.
A person to whom Jesus reaches out His hand in love and acknowledges. Jesus Christ gives to you and to me two requirements. These demands are essential for being a faithful disciple of our Lord. Firstly, we are to learn of and about Jesus through God’s Holy Word. Plus, we are to walk near to Christ every day on our journey of faith. These two demands are not burdensome or heavy loads. Quite to the contrary are they. They are indeed gifts of mercy and grace from God our Heavenly Father.
These gifts granted to all Jesus’ faithful disciples are as necessary as the air we breathe. You and I are beloved members of Jesus’ divine Family. This is how much our Lord loves each of His brothers and sisters in God. We owe to Him our love and our obedience to His Father.
As with our human family. We love to spend quality time with Jesus. You and I love to learn more and more of and about Him. Every morsel. Each detail hungrily fed into our open heart. Each act and every miracle performed out of His love. And each teaching is a lesson learned and used for future reference.
Our life as a disciple of Jesus is an adventure which lasts for eternity. You and I are eager to share Jesus and the good news He brings. Yes, we are eager to spread the Gospel of the Kingdom of God with one and all.
Scripture Readings: And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the Gospel of the Kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people. (Matthew 4:23, KJV)
Now after that John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the Gospel of the Kingdom of God,
And saying, the time is fulfilled, and the Kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye and believe the gospel. (Mark 1:14–15, KJV)
Do you love Jesus your Lord, your Savior Most? Is Christ Jesus the first and foremost Person in your life?
To me. This means that I make a conscious decision and effort to put Jesus first always. Of course, this is not always the case. At times I faulter and stumble. Then my Holy Father’s forgiveness I beg. As my faith in Jesus my precious Lord grows and deepens. Times where Jesus comes second are rare now. May the Lord be praised.
With Jesus our Lord as the center of our life. Our path to God’s Kingdom is clear, direct and straight. Our compass is pointing forever upward to God’s Heavenly Kingdom. Jesus is the lamp lighting our path of faith. God our Heavenly Father is the light which guides us each day.
Scripture Readings: Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth Me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life. (John 8:12, KJV)
For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. (2 Corinthians 4:6, KJV)
As you and I take hold of Jesus’ hand and learn of Him. We deep in our heart want no one to miss out on His love.
Scripture Reading: And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever. (Daniel 12:3, KJV)
The life, ministry and teaching of our Lord Jesus are recorded in His Gospels. Are written for all to read in the books of the New Testament.
You and I hungrily read God’s Holy Word to get to know Jesus personally and intimately. John the Baptist announces as he baptized Jesus Christ. He was indeed baptizing the prophesized Messiah. We see this as the beginning of our Lord’s public ministry.
Scripture Reading: Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him.
But John forbad Him, saying, I have need to be baptized of Thee, and comest thou to me?
And Jesus answering said unto him, suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered Him. (Matthew 13:13–15, KJV)
We join Jesus’ band of chosen disciples. Our Lord Jesus Christ may not accompany us physically as He did back then. Jesus does indeed walk beside us each day on our path of faith. He never leaves us alone. As Jesus chose His Apostles and disciples. Our Lord has chosen us to follow Him now and for eternity.
To walk each day as a disciple of Jesus is such a blessing. Such a gift of love from God our Heavenly Father. We are eager to share this gift with each person we meet. To be able to do this we need God’s wisdom poured into our heart.
For this is the very reason Jesus came to Earth. To preach the Gospel of the Kingdom of God. As Jesus’ followers. As Christ’s disciples it is our God-given duty to preach the Kingdom of God through our actions, words and prayers. To guide one and all back to God the Father. Back to the loving arms of Almighty God.
