Jesus’ Peace Washes Over Us. His Peace Jesus Gives to Us
In Jesus’ presence. Peace like a river flows.
When Peace, Like a River.
When peace like a river attendeth my way,
when sorrows like sea billows roll;
whatever my lot, Thou hast taught me to say,
“It is well, it is well with my soul.”
Reflection. In Jesus we are watered. With the peace of His cooling love.
Scripture Reading: And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:7, ESV)
You and I have a God. Jesus is God the Son. We have a God who loves us so. Jesus is the beloved Son of God the Father. With Jesus Christ as our God. We seek for no other. With Jesus’ love we desire no other love. We are loved. We are deeply and truly loved for now and for eternity. With the peace of Jesus. We abide in true and eternal peace. You and I walk in the loving and soothing peace of God the Son, Jesus.
Our Lord Jesus wants us to walk with Him. Jesus yearns for us to be with Him — ALWAYS. To abide with Him in true and lasting peace. To dwell in His presence today and forever more. To be sheltered under the wings of His soothing and His calming peace now and for eternity.
God the Father sent His one and His only beloved Son for us. Jesus was sent to Earth from Heaven. God sent His Son Jesus. To learn what it is to suffer as we do. Jesus lived on Earth to see what it is to be a mere mortal. He knows what it is to grieve for a lost loved one. Jesus knows what it is to be in pain. Jesus knows what it is to fear for our very life. Jesus truly and personally knows.
Yes! He knows. Jesus also knows what it is like to be truly and gloriously happy. Our Lord also knows what it is like to love God so very much. Our hearts sing with sheer joy. To feel the emotion of sheer gladness. Jesus understands what it is like to love God the Father so. Our hearts sing merry praises of joy to Almighty God. For we believe with all our hearts. All our blessings flow down from Heaven above. All good things come from the love of our Father God.
Scripture Reading: Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change. (James 1:17, ESV)
God’s Holy Word speaks of how Jesus suffered and died for all humanity. Jesus’ peace is a gift from God offered freely to all.
In 1 Peter 3:18–20 specifically Saint Peter tells us how Jesus suffered and died to bring us to God.
Scripture Reading: For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit, in which He went and proclaimed to the spirits in prison, because they formerly did not obey, when God’s patience waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was being prepared, in which a few, that is, eight persons, were brought safely through water. (1 Peter 3:18–20, ESV)
Jesus died so we live in peace. Jesus paid the price of our sin. So we live in the peace of Jesus’ love.
Scripture Readings: Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. (John 14, 27, ESV)
Now may the Lord of peace Himself give you peace at all times in every way. The Lord be with you all. (2 Thessalonians 3:16, ESV)
Reading the Holy Word of God brings to our open hearts the peace of Jesus. In His Gospels are many times Jesus speaks to people of His peace. In Jesus’ Gospels are many times where His disciples bless each other with their Lord’s peace. Peace is a central theme in the New Testament. Peace was a blessing in the early Christian church. Have we lost this amazing blessing? Have we? I pray not.
In His Holy Word. God Himself implores us to bless one another. Whether it be in a family setting. Or in a more formal setting. We are to bless one another with the peace of Jesus.
Scripture Reading: A Calling for Peace in the Holy Name of Jesus.
God has called you to peace. (1 Corinthians 7:15)
This world would be a happier and a more peaceful place. If in sincerity we greeted each other with the peace of Jesus. Instead of the fake, “how are you?” The sincere and genuine, “may the peace of Jesus be with you.” Do we see the difference? We are praying the peace of Jesus onto these people. We are praying. Yes! We are ushering a prayer to Almighty God that Jesus’ peace go with our friends. What a powerful prayer this turns out to be. This prayer is passed on. Again and again. “May the peace of Jesus be with you.”
Eight little words that change the world. “May the peace of Jesus be with you.” If you and I greeted our family, friends, neighbors and strangers alike with these eight little words. We may change the world. Let us start this revolution of love and peace, TODAY. Let us try.
When taking our beloved dog for her daily stroll. We notice two neighbors quarreling. We timidly walk up. Our dog merrily offers her paw to shake hands. You offer them these eight little words. “May the peace of Jesus be with you.” They look at you. As if you are completely out of your mind. But, then Jesus works His miracle. They reply, ““may the peace of Jesus be with you.” For love returns love always. Yes! Love returns love. Jesus works His miracle. We have passed on God’s love.
The same goes for our work place. It is getting a little stressful. Colleagues yelling at each other. You pop in with a coffee for each one. And, “may the peace of Jesus be with you.” Again looks of astoundment. But in a few moments laughter and merriment. All is well with the world once more.
Conclusion. Jesus’ peace starts out as a tiny ripple on the shore of discontent.
- But with the love of God in our hearts.
- Jesus’ peace waters the hearts of all God’s people.
- This is my prayer.
- Let us start today. Where ever we go. Who ever we greet.
- Let our greeting be.
- “May the peace of Jesus be with you.”
