Jesus’ Peace Calms
Jesus gives us peace that calms and soothes our troubled hearts.
Consider for a moment the method chosen for our Lord’s death. A cruel wooden cross used to torture and kill. Yet, it is the true symbol of peace and hope, and love for all faithful Christians. The vertical beam brings God’s divine peace from Heaven to man. The horizontal beam makes possible peace between all men.
I can picture our Lord’s arms stretched out and nailed to the horizontal beam. A symbol of His steadfast and devoted love for us all. His arms are stretched out in search of His loved ones. He is nailed to His cross for us.
Life is wasted if we do not grasp the glory of the cross, cherish it for the treasure that it is, and cleave to it as the highest price of every pleasure and the deepest comfort in every pain. What was once foolishness to us — a crucified God — must become our wisdom and our power and our only boast in this world. (Popular Passages from ‘Don’t Waste Your Life’, John Piper, crossway.org)
He Himself bore our sins in His body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By His wounds you have been healed. (1 Peter 2:24, ESV)
