What a Friend We Have in Jesus.

What a friend we have in Jesus,
all our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry
everything to God in prayer!

O what peace we often forfeit,
O what needless pain we bear,
all because we do not carry
everything to God in prayer!

Have we trials and temptations?
Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged;
take it to the Lord in prayer!

Can we find a friend so faithful
who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our every weakness;
take it to the Lord in prayer!\

(Joseph Medlicott Scriven, 1855)

Introduction. A friend to us is Jesus. A Savior for us is Christ. A God to us is Jesus.

Scripture Reading: I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from My Father I have made known to you. (John 15:1, NIV)

God our Heavenly Father created us to love Him with all our being. Almighty God made us to love. To truly love Him and to love one another. You and I are made for a close and a personal friendship with God Almighty. Our Heavenly Father knows of our loneliness. Almighty God reads our hearts and knows our sadness.

The Almighty One made us for friendship with Him. Let us spend our life experiencing God’s friendship. To be Jesus’ true and genuine friend. To sincerely experience Jesus’ friendship. You and I need to first get to know of and about Him.

How??? How do we get to know the best friend we shall ever have? We reach out our hand. We pick up once more God’s Holy Word. We read of our best friend Jesus. In His Gospels. All four Gospels tell us to learn from His lessons and His parables.

Jesus’ Gospels speak of a time when He stoops down and loves. The woman caught in her sin and in her shame. Jesus shows to her not judgement nor condemnation. Our Lord gives to her the love of God. Jesus offers her. His hand of friendship and His Godly compassion. Jesus, her Savior shows to her love. As she has never known in her sad and her lonely life. Jesus becomes to her. A friend she will love as no other.

Jesus is to His disciples. As He shares meals and loving time with them. A teacher, a mentor, a healer, a confidant and a friend. Jesus teaches these twelve men lessons on love, healing, hope, peace and eternal life.

Do you? As me. Picture yourself walking alongside Jesus. On His dusty and oh! So very long roads of Galilee. As Jesus loved, healed and touched the heart. Of each sad and lonely person on His way. For to Jesus each and every person is a beloved of His Father, Almighty God.

All four Gospels call us to not only accept Jesus as our personal Lord and Savior. But to also submit our life and our love to Him as our LORD and our King. To value Jesus as our most highly prized possession. Our most cherished treasure.

Scripture Reading: For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. (Matthew 6:21, NIV)

This verse from Saint Matthew tells us. That when Jesus is our most highly prized treasure. Then Jesus is placed firmly in the deepest and most secret places of our heart. Forever and for always. The Gospels call you and I to love and to enjoy Jesus. As our true and our most beloved friend, always.

Being a beloved. A devoted and a faithful friend of our LORD, Jesus …. means.

Scripture Reading: A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for a time of adversity. (Proverbs 17:17, NIV)

Jesus our LORD, our Savior, our God. Loves us with His sacrificial love. With His love as a personal and as our intimate friend. We in return love God the Son, Jesus with all our being, always and forever.

Without Jesus as our closest friend. Our life of loneliness and sadness would be without end. Our days of darkness would be endless. Jesus gave His life so you and I shall be His eternal friends.

All that is needed. Is our honest and our complete repentance. All that is needed. Is our personal and our loving acceptance. Of Jesus as our Lord and our Savior. Then for eternity. Jesus is our friend and our Savior.

Christ Jesus, from the moment of acceptance to eternity. Is a friend who gives to us His soothing and His calming peace.

Scripture Readings: Peace I leave with you; My peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. (John 14:27, NIV)

I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world. (John 16:33, NIV)

He makes me lie down in green pastures,
He leads me beside quiet waters. (Psalm 23:2, NIV)

We walk with our Lord Jesus in paths of stillness and beautiful rest. In our days of sadness. Jesus, our dearest and closest friend. He gives to us a hand to hold. Christ offers to us a shoulder to cry on. With Jesus as our friend we are never, never alone. We can turn to Him in prayer. We can tell Jesus of our sadness. For Jesus knows our pain. Yes! Oh! Yes! Jesus has suffered. Jesus understands our pain.

Scripture Reading: For we do not have a High Priest who is unable to sympathize and understand our weaknesses and temptations, but One who has been tempted [knowing exactly how it feels to be human] in every respect as we are, yet without [committing any] sin. (Hebrews 4:15, AMP)

When all other friends desert us. And lonely and isolated we feel once more. We look deep into the heart of Jesus.

O how I love Jesus and desire to know Him more and more, to know and enjoy the wisdom of His friendship. A friendship I will give anything for and never trade for any other thing. It is so sweet to walk with Jesus and behold the beauty of His loveliness and Holiness, to follow His directions and experience no failure. (Ngozi, Steps with God Blog)

Jesus speaks to us and tells us, “My dearest, My closest friend. I love you still. I will not abandon you. I never will.” For this is how much our God, Jesus loves you and He loves me.

With Jesus as our closest and our dearest friend. Alone, sad and fearful. We will never be AGAIN.

This, to us is such a blessing. Such a loving reassurance. No matter what comes our way. No matter what life throws at us. Jesus is holding our hand. Jesus is standing alongside us.

What a precious and a loving friend. We surely have in Jesus. May God be praised.
