Jesus — God with us. Jesus God the Son.
The name Emmanuel takes in the whole mystery. Jesus is “God with us.” He had a nature like our own in all things, sin only excepted. But though Jesus was “with us” in human flesh and blood, He was at the same time very God. (J. C. Ryle)
Reflection. Jesus Christ your Lord and God. Blessed are those who believe in Jesus.
Scripture Reading: Blessed are those who believe.
“Thomas answered Him, “My Lord and my God!” Jesus said to him, “Have you believed because you have seen Me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” (John 20:28–29, ESV)
“To see is to believe.” You have heard this spoken many times. This was Saint Thomas’ reply. At being told Jesus had risen. He would only believe. When he touched the hand of Jesus and placed his hand on the side of his Lord. Only then would he believe. Saint Thomas was blessed by Jesus. He touched. Saint Thomas believed. Saint Thomas kneeled before Jesus and declared, “My Lord, My God.”
