Christian giving is a responsive act. It represents gratitude to God. It is a symbol of self-giving. Therefore, giving is not a once-for-all event, but a regular part of life. It is a spiritual discipline that reminds us who we are and whose we are. (Herb Mather)

Introduction. Jesus our LORD calls all His disciples, (including you and me.) Our beloved Lord and Master calls us to truly love all God’s people. With His kindness, tenderness and compassion.

Scripture Reading: And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.”

“And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.” (Mark 12:30–31, ESV)

Our Lord Jesus is for all His faithful disciples. The perfect example. Jesus is the living embodiment of pure and sweet love.

Reading in John’s Gospel, Chapter Thirteen, (vs 1–17.) We see Jesus as a perfect example of a humble servant. Jesus the creator of all there is. Jesus God the Son. Kneels before each of His beloved disciples. Jesus the one and only Son of the Highest. Kneels in servitude. Washes the filthy feet of each of His beloved friends.

In this act of humble service. Jesus teaches you and me. Jesus performs for us. A true act of unconditional love. We follow His lead. We do for others as Jesus did. We love others as Jesus does. With kindness, with tenderness and with compassion.

In Jesus’ loving act of service. In His gift of compassion. Jesus teaches all His disciples. As you and I care for. Take care of the needs of family, friends, neighbors and strangers alike. We lay aside our pride and any prejudice. We lay aside our busy-ness. We lay aside our own cares and needs. We love others. As Jesus taught us to. With the tenderness and the compassion Jesus showed us. We simply love.

You and I care only for the lady before us. We kneel before her. In her service. We kneel before her. Her needs are now our top priority. We speak quietly to her. Soothing her troubled heart. As we care for her physical and her emotional needs. We usher a silent prayer. To the Almighty One. This is our service. This is our love. This may lead her Home to God the Father. The rest we leave to Him. For this is always what Jesus wants. To lead her Home to God. To lead her to the Kingdom of God.

Scripture Reading: But you must return to your God; maintain love and justice, and wait for your God always. (Hosea 12:6, NIV)

You and I find our hearts are filled with Jesus’ beauty. The joy of God the Father. By expressing the kindness, the tenderness and the compassion. Of the love of Jesus. By caring for. By taking care of the needs of those around us. Surprisingly this brings us gentle joy. A true sense of connection to those we are serving.

Friends influence our lives in many ways — attitudes, actions, and even our goals. We truly do become like our friends, and that is a beautiful truth of friendship with Jesus. Serving is a fundamental characteristic of Jesus, and when you walk with Him, you’ll become a servant too. That’s good news worth considering.

Maybe you’ve seen the acrostic: JOY? Putting Jesus first, others second, and ourselves last is the way of Christ — and the way to joy.

It matters not to us. How we are serving. It matters not to us. Who we are helping. What matters to Jesus. What matters to God the Father. Is our attitude in our service. In the doing. In all our service. We act with the pure and the sweet love of Jesus. In complete humility. Showing at all times. Showing will all God’s people. Jesus’ love and compassion — ALWAYS.

Friendship and fellowship with our Lord Jesus — Serving. Taking care of the needs of all God’s people.

Scripture Reading: Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though He was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied Himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. (Philippians 2:5–7, ESV)

Fellowship with God the Son. A truly sacred belief and a holy relationship. A sovereign and a divine concept. Fellowship with the One who gave His all for us. Not to be taken lightly. Fellowship with our Lord Jesus is an eternal association. It demands from us. Our all in return. No less is acceptable to Him.

Jesus as He hung on His cross. Gave to you and to me. His very life. God the Son. Gave to all humanity, Himself. We owe to God the Son no less. We pledge to Jesus ourselves. For now, for eternity, for ever. In thanksgiving. We love others as Jesus does. With kindness, with tenderness and with compassion.

Fellowship with our Lord Jesus. Forms such a deep and such an intimate connection. This divine companionship goes far beyond any earthly relationships. As close and as loving as they may or may not be.

Here is a wonderful example of a fellowship with Jesus. Of one who has accepted Jesus as his personal Lord and Savior.

I want you to see what I mean, because it was that union of the Lord Jesus Christ and my own heart which brought life, and light, and peace to my soul. My Salvation life began at that point, and I was able to say, as we often sing: —

’Tis done, the great transaction’s done,
I am my Lord’s, and He is mine;
He drew me, and I followed on,
Charmed to confess the Voice Divine. (T. H. Howard, Bible Hub Blog)

Conclusion. At the moment of our salvation. When you and I accept Jesus as our beloved LORD. As our personal Savior and our God.

  • We are accepted into the Divine and Sacred family of God.
  • You and I enter the Kingdom of God.
  • No more wonderful association is there for you and for me.
  • We have an eternal fellowship.
  • A forever friendship with Jesus.
  • Jesus gave His life for this wondrous opportunity. We, you and I give ourselves to Jesus in return.
  • In thanksgiving. We love others as Jesus does. With kindness, with tenderness and with compassion.
