Inspiring Australian Artists I Admire
Readers, if you would like to get to know me as an Australian Seascape Artist just a little better? Below are four famous Artists I Admire and who inspire my particular style of painting.
Readers, after you have browsed through this short story please do follow! I need to grow as an Artist to satisfy the needs of Australian art collectors. It is only through the wisdom and suggestions of others that my knowledge can be expanded for the benefit of my art and it’s collectors.
To be successful in painting Australian seascapes & landscapes truly capturing our nation’s amazing beauty I need a familiarity with other famous Australian artists. Below are just four artists I admire. Of course, there are many others that inspire me to try to improve with each new creation. These four were chosen because their basic philosophies behind their creations resonate with my primary purpose for painting. Although William Dobell and Margaret Olley are primarily known for their portraits — their mindset were similar to mine. That is, to reflect nature, in portraits — the subject — in a manner to bring the image to life on canvas.
Four Australian Famous Artists I Admire: William Dobell
William Dobell — Winner of the Archibeld Prize
William Dobell was truly an outstanding Australian artist. He won the Archibeld Prize three times:
- 1943 Mr Joshua Smith
- 1948 Margaret Olley and
- 1959 Dr E G MacMahon
And in 1948 William Dobell won the Wynne Prize for his famous Landscape Painting “Storm Approaching Way.”
William Dobell was famous for his individual style of personal portrait art — his philosophy for painting resonates with my heart.
Another Australian Artist I Admire — Margaret Olley
Margaret Olley stated: “As you get older, you move to a point where you can give back to society:” I dream of being famous one day and — “Give back to society.”
Another Australian Artist I Admire — Karen Collins
Karen Collins is an Australian artist who paints both landscapes and seascapes in oils. Her style is very similar to mine. Karen has sold many of her paintings and is well respected in the Australian art community.
She is the founder of the online art gallery — “ArtSt” — which helps Australian artists.
Another Famous Australian Landscape Artist I Admire —
Michaye Boulter
“What stays with us is a beautiful thought, … paintings are like that … deepen us as we live with a painting.” Michaye Boulter.
My passion for the style “Realism” is fueled by Masters in this technique — such as Michaye Boulter, from Tasmania. Her magnificent landscapes are deeply coloured oil paintings on linen which are truly photorealistic. I must admit that I do not aim for this, yet use her as a muse and as she states:
‘the intangible nature of beauty, the passing of time, and my attempt to find my place in it all.” Capturing nature on canvas is my way of placing a beautiful thought in oils.
There are many talented Australian seascape and landscape artists out there. My paintings will indeed brighten the lives of Australian collectors.
Readers, if you are familiar with other Australian seascape or landscape artists who favour Realism as their style — please let me know!
Well, till-next-time, Diane.
