We Long to Be in the Safe Harbour of God’s Love
In the safety and love of Almighty God. This is where we long to be.
THROUGH THIS ARTICLE. LET US BE IN THE LOVING PRESENCE OF ALMIGHTY GOD.
The church is not a select circle of the immaculate, but a home where the outcast may come in. It is not a palace with gate attendants and challenging sentinels along the entrance-ways holding off at arm’s-length the stranger, but rather a hospital where the broken-hearted may be healed, and where all the weary and troubled may find rest and take counsel together. (James H. Aughey)
Reflection. Let us find the rest. The rest and the peace our hearts are seeking.
Scripture Reading: For thus said the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel, “In returning and rest you shall be saved; in quietness and in trust shall be your strength.” (Isaiah 30:15, ESV)
I have occasional times. Times when I feel like a porcelain doll. O! So fragile and breakable. Days when the weight of the world appears to be placed on my shoulder. When I feel like if one more thing should go wrong. I will fall into a million pieces on the floor. Even tears are not shed. I am just too weary and heavy-laden for tears. And why bother? If there is not a friend to lay my head upon her shoulder? If there is not a friend to offer me her handkerchief. Why bother?
Who is there? Is there anybody? Out there in that busy world for us? Who truly cares about our brokenness? Is there anyone? Anyone at all. Who cares about our fragility? Is there someone who cares about our aloneness? All we need is a shoulder to cry on. All we seek is a person who will listen. A person who has the time. We need a Person to hear our call for help. OR. Are we truly alone? Is our urgent plea for help. Fading off into the ever-expanding universe. Is our silent scream for a miracle? Lost in the distance of space. Or. Is there a God of Love? Does He hear us? Does He?
After the storm of our day. Comes the calmness of the presence of Almighty God.
Scripture Reading: After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper. (1 Kings 19:12, ESV)
We are loved. We are deeply and personally loved. Almighty God has created a means by which we can enter into His presence. Almighty God longs for us not to be alone. God reads our hearts. God created prayer. God loves us this much. Prayer, He created. Prayer. Prayer is our connection between the One who truly listens and us.
In place of our exhaustion and spiritual fatigue, God will give us rest. All He asks is that we come to Him…that we spend a while thinking about Him, meditating on Him, talking to Him, listening in silence, occupying ourselves with Him — totally and thoroughly lost in the hiding place of His presence. (Chuck Swindoll)
Praise His Holy Name. O! We have a God who truly loves us.
We are blessed with a God who truly cares. We have a God who created prayer. As our means of connection with Him. We kneel before Almighty God in our times of heartache and sadness in prayer. The wonder. The blessing. The love. God the Creator of the entire universe. God the Creator of all humanity. Almighty God also made you and me. God is infinite. He has all the time we need. The love behind each little prayer. God hears, listens to and answers every prayer we usher to Him. This is the miracle of prayer. Each little prayer is answered.
As we kneel before Almighty God in prayer. As we kneel before Him. A stillness washes over us. A quietness enters our hearts. The peace of God replaces our brokenness. The peace of God we so badly sought fills our hearts. The love of Almighty God transforms our aloneness. Once more God’s love sits quietly within. Once more we are in the loving presence of Almighty God.
Scripture Reading: The Lord bless you and keep you;
the Lord make His face shine on you
and be gracious to you;
the Lord turn His face toward you
and give you peace. (Numbers 6:24–26, NIV)
Yes, there is someone out there. Yes, there is a Person out there who listens to our call for help. It is Almighty God. It is the Creator of all there is and all there ever will be. It is the Creator of you and me.
The Creator of all there is. Yearns for companionship with you and me. This is why He created prayer.
Once I knew what it was to rest upon the rock of God’s promises, and it was indeed a precious resting place, but now I rest in His grace. He is teaching me that the bosom of His love is a far sweeter resting-place than even the rock of His promises. (Hannah Whitall Smith)
Conclusion. We Long to Be in the Safe Harbour of God’s Love.
We have a longing deep within our souls. A yearning that demands to be answered. A hunger to be loved. A love like no other. A love that is deep, personal and eternal. A love that is forgiving and true. This love we have answered in Almighty God. This love is enough. This love never fades. This love never disappoints. This love never leaves us. This love is Almighty God. God is love.
