“Who Is Jesus, and What is Jesus to You?” gives you more insight into Jesus our Lord.

Jesus’ sole purpose on earth was to become our salvation. To obey His Father’s plan laid out before the beginning of time. He is our Lord, Jehovah. He is also our Saviour.

Jesus stepped down from eternity. Left the presence of His loving Father. Stepped into the womb of a young woman, Mary. He who was outside time. He who was outside material existence. He who was infinite and eternal. Stepped into the womb of a young woman, Mary. Jesus, God the Son chose to become the Man of our Salvation.

Who is Jesus? Why is He so Important? Born in humble circumstances. Jesus at birth both God the Son. Yet, also humbled Himself to become flesh. Become mortal. God incarnate. God Almighty with infinite power and wisdom. Now felt the discomfort of human pain, misery, loneliness, sadness, hunger and thirst.

Jesus the Word who with the Father: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God.” (John 1:1–2) Jesus was with God in the beginning. He existed from eternity to eternity. Stepped into time. He then had a beginning, He knew His end. Oh! Yes for you, He knew His end. Stepped onto His cross for your salvation.

All things were made through Him, and without Him was not any thing made that was made. John 1:3

Jesus’ Birth. It is the time of the census. Joseph and his wife Mary arrive at Bethlehem his town of descendency. Mary is “great with child.” Our Saviour. Our Lord is about to be born. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, who is Christ the Lord.”( Luke 2:11) Bethlehem is crowded with people from far and near. There are not any rooms available at the inn. Joseph makes Mary as comfortable as he can in the stable at the rear.

Jesus has many names. Each portraying His divine character. His love for us. Jesus was the name given to Him at birth by God His Father. The people call Him Emmanuel.

Messiah — the Christ — the Anointed One. It is He who announces the good news of our salvation. “Because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” Romans 10:9 It is the Messiah who heals your broken heart. It is the Messiah who sets you free from the captivity of sin. When you receive the Messiah as your Saviour, you receive the One who works alongside God the Father. To fulfil God’s purpose. God’s desire in your life.

Jesus, the Word. The Word Is God Almighty. The Word stepped down from Heaven. Stepped out of eternity into the limits of time. The Word Incarnate. God became flesh. Word as a man. As Jesus. “And you shall call His Name Jesus.”

Lamb of God, the perfect unblemished lamb to be sacrificed on our behalf. “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!” (1 John 1:29) We should bend our knees in thanks to Him for our lives. For our salvation.

Who is Jesus? He is love. He is oh! so wonderful! Praise be to God! Jesus is the epitome of love. While He walked the dusty streets of Israel. While He cared for the poor and destitute. While He healed the sick. Jesus said to him, Rise and go your way; your faith has made you well.” (Luke 17:19)

All that Jesus did, He did with the love from Heaven. Small children are always welcomed and embraced. Repentant sinners are forgiven and welcome into the Heavenly family. Miracles are performed. All in the name of His Father. All committed with His everlasting love.

Even as He hung dying on the cross. He forgave those who put Him there. And Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.” (Luke 23:34) The very people who killed Him. He forgave. Judas — one of His twelve Apostles. On the night before His crucifixion, Jesus had washed his feet. Judas His betrayer. Judas who betrayed our Lord and Saviour for thirty pieces of silver. Judas who betrayed Jesus our Lord with a kiss. At the place and time of His betrayal. “Friend,” Jesus asked him, “why have you come?” (Matthew 26:50) What was the term Jesus used for Judas? Friend. Jesus called Judas His friend. What love? Only God Himself could call His betrayer friend!

Jesus is unique throughout all history. No one can love you as He does. He humbled Himself to become a man. To understand your pains and happiness. He taught God’s Word and Wisdom. Jesus answered and said, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.” (Matthew 4:4) He died and rose again providing you with His salvation. Jesus, Emmanuel — God with us. Loves you. God raised the Lord and will also raise us up by His power.” (1 Corinthians 6:14)

Our Lord Jesus, who is the very God Himself. Is an approachable and loving God. Remember the Samaritan woman at Jacob’s well. Jesus welcomed her. Jesus loved her. Jesus forgave her. Jesus welcomes her into the Heavenly family. Jesus is approachable. Jesus is Emmanuel, God with us. You can approach Him any time. He is waiting in the shade at Jacob’s well. He awaits your company.

Jesus’ whole life is an example of God’s perfect, infinite and unconditional love. Jesus’ whole life is lessons taught through love. Nothing you endure. He has not endured. When you are sad. Picture Him in the Garden of Gethsemane. The night before His crucifixion. Was He sad? I believe He was. So sad He was weeping tears of blood and water. Have you ever been that sad? When you feel totally alone. Hear Him utter through parched lips His prayer: “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” (Matthew 27:46) Jesus understands how it feels to be alone.

When you place your child on your knee and tenderly embrace her. “Let the children come to me; do not hinder them,” (Mark 10:14b) Jesus called for the small children to be brought to Him. He tenderly and lovingly embraced and spoke to each one by name. There is not a moment in your life that Jesus does not understand. Has not experienced as Emmanuel. God with us.

So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him. 1 John 4:16

Jesus, Emmanuel, Christ had one purpose. One reason for becoming a man. For walking the dusty roads. For teaching in the temple. To give His life. To gain it again. For our Salvation.

Jesus, Son of God even on the night before His crucifixion. In His hour of sadness. Still loves us enough to carry on. Still, He loves us enough to give us free will. Do we choose Him? “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in Me, though he die, yet shall he live.” (John 11:25) Jesus chose you.

God loves you and He always will!
