You aim to be a better person every day by helping other people. You are part of this ‘Win-Win’ scenario, right?

Perhaps you already do most of the suggestions we are going to explore together. But have you ever heard of the saying: “there is never too much of doing a good thing?”

In each of your days as a truly worthwhile person. I am asking you to notice that you:

  • Acknowledge the people you see: family, friends, neighbours, work colleagues, customer service staff and most important of all complete strangers.
  • Be kind in little ways: Perhaps, when your children come home from school never be too busy to show them you love them. Perhaps, you pick up some dropped litter for an elderly person who is unable to do so. Associated with a warm smile naturally.
  • Be helpful in little ways. Offer to rake up your neighbour’s leaves if she is unable to do so. Visit a sick neighbour who is stuck in the hospital.
  • And, my very favourite. Chat with someone you don’t know. They may become your next very best friend.
  • Try to be more mindful. I at times say hurtful things. Words which I then have to apologize for. It is so much easier to think before you speak. Then apologises are not required and forgiveness is not needed to be granted.
  • And finally the most important item of all. Shift your focus. Try whenever it is possible to put the other person’s needs first.

Just imagine if each person all over the world placed themselves second. This would eradicate:

  • Famine;
  • War and all conflicts;
  • Domestic Violence and Abuse;
  • Cruelty to Animals;
  • Children Sold into Slavery and Sexual Exploitation;
  • Taxes would be used to pay for the best Health, Education, etc., etc.

Paradise on earth is achievable! Possibly by every worthwhile person placing themselves second.

Next time you want to see your real beauty being reflected to you. Just look into the eyes of a stranger you are chatting to on a neighbourhood street, perhaps? See then how your beauty is reflected in her grateful eyes. Your warm and gentle smile along with your tender words may have been the only friendly words granted to her for quite a while. Your gentle heart has connected to her lonely heart.

By spending these few moments of your precious time you acknowledged this stranger’s worth and value. You proved to her that she is a person to be acknowledged and is of beauty as well. This is the beauty that you see reflected in this stranger’s eyes. The value you see in each person you meet is helping you to be the person you inspire to be.

You have had times when sadness was eased by words of compassion and kindness. When a dear friend heard of your need and popped by for a coffee and a chat. You felt your heart skip a beat just to think that somebody bothered about you and cared.

Now, it is your turn to ‘pass your love forward’. An elderly neighbour has just returned from a long stay in hospital. You pop by to see how you can help and stay for a nice long chat. You notice by you just being there your neighbour appears to be a little happier. You promise to pop in tomorrow. Of course, you keep this promise, with a bunch of freshly picked flowers from your garden.

Now, these may only seem like small and simple gestures to you. But to your neighbour, they probably meant the world to her at the time. And I am going to share a little secret. Your neighbour probably spread the word about just how wonderful she feels you are for doing these little gestures for her in her time of need. Add to your resume in your beauty portfolio.

This section is simple and yet life-changing. Termed very easily in two keywords: “Cultivate Gratitude.”

Being a dedicated follower of my Lord, Jesus Christ I begin and finish each day with a prayer of sincere gratitude. God the Father blesses me with two astounding gifts. Firstly, the ability to create original oil paintings for His glory and the pleasure of other people. Now, a prayer of inspiration. I ask God the Father for the topic and the words for each story. I write both for His glory and to help my readers. Now I am an author too. I have so many blessings bestowed on me in small and wondrous ways each day. How could I not be grateful?

Do you start and end each day appreciating and acknowledging the special things each day bestows on you? As you prepare for another day, do you look forward to the wonders of nature that await you?

Do you consider the wonder of electricity as you turn on the electric jug for your morning coffee? The air conditioner grants your room the perfect temperature each morning as you dress for the day. Another modern marvel to be grateful for, yes?

Each moment of this brand new day is complete with wonders. Please stay alert to each. They certainly make your life full of amazement and reasons for sincere gratitude.

By giving continuous attention to all the things around you that most people take for granted life takes on a brand new ‘sparkle’. Next time you climb aboard a bus, gift the bus driver with a warm and tender smile. He will truly value this unexpected and welcome greeting. You have again shown your kindness and compassion to another person. You have displayed to this bus driver that you are indeed grateful for his vital service. You well may have ‘made his day’.

You find many ways throughout your day to express your acknowledgement, appreciation and gratitude to friends and family. This simply is who you are. They see this in you and it may just rub off. They too may become people who regularly express free and unpretentious gratitude. And the world will be a better place for it!

Through this story, you have explored ways of being an even better person than you are now. This is a truly exciting adventure!

You have promised yourself that you will continue to help other people with your innate kindness and compassion. “What the world needs now is love” (The Beatles). You are going to spread your love everywhere you go and shine your kindness on everyone you meet.

You have confirmed again the importance of starting and finishing each day with words of sincere gratitude. You are alert to ways throughout each day where life is rewarded. You acknowledge, appreciate and you are grateful for all the wonders that each day lavishes on you.
